Your Concert Year 2009 3 Years, 4 Months ago
There was such a thread last year for 2008. As nobody has started one for 2009, here it is...
What concerts have you gone to in 2009?

My year was rather meager, but with Bob on the list I am happy nontheless .

02/22/09 Itchy Poopzkid (German Punk Rock Band)
04/14/09 Bob Dylan
07/11/09 Lambchop/Calexico

Wish you all a happy new year 2010! May it be one with plenty of good music and live performances!

Re:Your Concert Year 2009 3 Years, 4 Months ago
crap, it's hard to recall all the gigs this year.

highlights include, bob of course. he is the highlight.
i adored the baseball stadium show with willie and mellencamp. that was fun!

also a couple of nights in boston. sitting in the front row, directly in front of bob, crooning with arms wide open and the scrim of the diamond sky behind him, did it for me. i had a one nighter with bob, only he doesn't know it sheesh, i'm still 'restless' abt that.

lately, we caught j. geils w/ pete wolf on new yr's eve. talk abt an energetic rock 'n roll show.

also caught the grateful dead for the millionth time in april. this show was special, i was accompanied by my team cap't adam dean and his boy. that was dynamite and the crowd went wild.

dion early november prior to his bob show, with a full n.j. band backing him. i made a point of going to this one. he was fantastic.

loads of blues bands including james cotton and shemekia copeland. i just can't remember.
most shows have been free. i think the only shows i've paid for have been bob's.

on one special day in may, it was may 1st, the dalai lama at gillette stadium was the best thing i've done in ages not that i learned anything i didn't already know, it was still an honour and a magical moment to be in his presence, cripes, when will that ever happen again for me? that same evening 'moon alice' (recommended) featuring g.e.smith, pete sears and jack cassidy, barry sleiss and the mcnamees. roger offered me a slice of his yummie b'day cake. who would have thunk all this could occur on one day.

loads of other vintage acts including the great charo! she's a trip, shakes her coochi, choochi and boy can she play flameco guitar. she's something else.

oh yeah, also forgot another whim show.. the woodstock reunion! great bands! big brother with a dynamic vocalist, the airplane/starship, canned heat with harvey mandel, ten yrs after, etc... i loved that show.

otherwise, i can't recall what happened last wk., seriously, time flies when you keep moving, stay open, spontaneous and remain positive. so. i recommend you keep movin'
be strong, have fun and please stay safe, wherever you roam.
xxxooo

p.s. i forgot abt andrea bocelii.. that was also a freebie. unbeliveable! he's brilliant.

hard to remember if it was 2008 or 2009,
but here's a shot:

Spring:
Bob Dylan
Oasis
Madelein Peyroux

Summer
Cactus Festival: Calexico, Lamb, Tracey Chapman, Bunny Wailer, etc etc
Pukkelpop Festival: Kraftwerk, Them Crooked Vultures, Bon Iver, Paulo Nutini, The Offspring, La Roux, 50 Cent, Arctic Monkeys, Beirut, etc...

Fall
Muse
Joan Baez
Emiliana Torrini
Massive Attack

The highlight definately was Muse. Biggest dissapointment must have been Kraftwerk. I might as well have watched the DVD at home.

My only plans so far for 2010 is the werchter festival with confirmed names: Muse, Green Day, Rammstein and lbnl Pearl Jam!

Re:Your Concert Year 2009 3 Years, 4 Months ago
2009 was a pretty slow concert year for me. I didn't get to as many shows as I would have liked (and really would have loved to see Steve Earle again, but alas he was playing Milwaukee in the middle of my vacation).

My concert year:

Bob - July 1 (Milwaukee), October 27 (Rockford), October 31 (Chicago)
Lucinda Williams - September 18 (Minneapolis), September 22 (Milwaukee), October 13 (Chicago)
David Gray - October 29 (Chicago)

David Gray was a good show, but marred by the obnoxious pot-smoker behind us who talked loudly throughout the show and was totally oblivious every time I shushed him. Plus, I had to miss the Dylan show in town that night.

The Dylan shows I saw were great. Milwaukee's debut of Forgetful Heart was absolutely amazing, and seeing Charlie back in the band in the fall (which was my first time seeing him, as my first Dylan show wasn't until 2004) was incredible.

But the highlight of my concert year, no doubt, was the Minneapolis Lucinda Williams show. She got married onstage between the main set and the encore, and debuted her contribution to the unfinished-Hank-Williams-songs project, a tune with uncharacteristically happy lyrics (and thus perfect for the occasion) called I'm Happy I Found You. Lucinda and Tom were also incredibly gracious to invite a number of fans, myself included, to the reception afterward. It was an incredibly amazing night, and as I told someone at the reception, sure to be the second-most incredible wedding I'll ever attend (the most incredible one came a few weeks later, when I got married October 10th. )

The first show of her three-night stand in Chicago spanning material from her entire career was great, too. Unfortunately, I was suffering from the flu and couldn't fully enjoy it; being sick also kept me from the next night's show, which I had a ticket for but could not attend.
