Detroit show 2 Years, 6 Months ago
What an amazing show! I didn't get all my hopefuls but I couldn't believe how alive Bob was. I especially liked the reworking of Desolation Row. PLEASE if anyone has a recording of that I would love to have it. For those of you who are still waiting, you are in for a great treat!

Desolation was done pretty well, I'll agree. The highlight for me was a beautiful version of "Workingman's Blues" with him standing center stage, arms outstretched to the audience for what seemed like a long time after the song. We thought it might be because he knows that this area is approaching 35% unemployment and the song was met with a rousing standing ovation from the audience. My only disappointment is that I didn't get to hear "Ain't Talkin' " with the new formation.

Charlie brings a fullness and fire to the mix that I've been missing over the past few years. All of the band members seem to be energized by the change and there's a marked increase in interaction between them, well between Tony, Charlie, George and Stu. That Donny guy is still staring at Bob's keyboard and set so low in the mix I couldn't hear him at all. Some of the people I was with also commented that they had no idea what he was playing either. What's up with that? At any rate the other guys seem to be working on gelling, and I'm guessing we won't be waiting too long for that to be complete.

The old man is as animated as I've seen him in decades, and he appears to be really enjoying his song and dance man center stage thing with the microphone and harp, and it's really a treat not only to see that, but to hear his vocals when he's able to really concentrate on them. He's not straining to reach vocal heights that he just can't get to any more so it's more genuine, warm and interesting. Involved Dylan is always interesting.

Had an amazing seat, close enough to the stage to see facial expressions but a few steps back from the rail so the sound was pristine and not mixed in with sound from the monitors (I prefer pristine), so after testing out the rail I returned to my seat until the very end of the show. All in all very enjoyable for this fan, happy to be once again contentedly basking in the afterglow. Nice show and great company can't be beat.

Thanks for these posts. The more I see in these forums, the more excited I'm becoming about the 19th in NYC!

Just a general comment about this, since I wasn't at the Detroit show. But in Berkeley I could definitely hear Donnie; maybe it depends on where you're standing/sitting? And it probably also depends on the song. Glad to hear it was a great show, and for your take on Workingman's Blues.

It was nice meeting you too Andrew. Maybe we will bump into one another at another show. I usually make all the shows around the Michigan area.
