I proposed this a while ago, and it turns out MT was released towards the end of the summer 06 ballpark tour, as Standin pointed out

I was at the first 3 shows after Modern Times was released. No Modern Times, quite disappointing. Someone effed up on the scheduling for that one for sure. Oddly enough, there hasn't been a ballpark tour since (thank God).

See, no offense, but I tend not to believe that.

none taken, but with all due respect, a couple of the "sources" of the new album information have confirmed that it is not the Hank Williams project, so if you believe in the new album, then you believe that it ain't the HW project.

Well, it is at least conceivable that sources might have only some accurate information. But as you say, they could be wrong altogether.

I hope it is a total departure from "Modern Times". It is not an album that was particulary great; interesting, but not anything like "Love and Theft". Hearing that Mike Campbell and Bentmont Tench might be in on this project too has me very interested. Would love to be a fly on the wall for those listening sessions!

Re:NEW DYLAN ALBUM 1 Year ago
Rollingstone.com has referenced the NEP a few times before, including direct quotes from a few posters (AWA comes to mind.) Back when they released the 'Dylan' box set - which was apparently made up of fan-requested songs - they reported on what songs us NEPpers had spoke up about (including mine, though I wasn't quoted directly.)

Don't kid yourself - lots of people read these sites. What I find interesting is that they're reading THIS site and not some of the others. My guess is that they get scared by those posts out there on other sites about people who want to diddle Dylan. We may be a "hardcore fan site" but we're not THAT hardcore...

"Sources" can include basically anyone. Your sources are different then mine, which are different then, say, dankrass's.
RS and the New Yorker's "sources" include this place, which, I'm sorry to say, is NOT an authority this. If anyone had that kind of info to confirm this sort of thing, an internet message board would NOT be the place they divulge it.
Because no one can name their sources (and I'm not saying you should), theres no reason for anyone else to believe them

anyhoo. i'm sorry, but this is journalism these days? i'm not trying to knock anyone or anyone's secret sources, or this place, which i think is lovely.... but this is the source? i'm sorry, but i was under the impression we were mostly clueless and looked like this . it's probably just me.

but jeeeeeeze... the new yorker? i feel disillusioned. i thought that stopped at 40.

As far as I know - and I may be wrong - the 'Smoking Section' at RollingStone is nothing more than a blog/rumor mill, rather than their more official journalism side of things. So they can basically report/say whatever they want over there - which is probably why they got away with using us as a source.

The New Yorker - ya, that's just weird. However, we do have to remember that "news leaks" are often used as the start of a promotional marketing campaign to start building interest. Since we really don't know a who's who online, we never really know who is leaking something to someone and whether or not it's accurate. But, since there seems to have been a number of leaks recently - and they seem to be somewhat consistent - I guess that was good enough for the New Yorker... which is pretty bad!
