NEW DYLAN ALBUM 1 Year ago
8New Dylan Album

As trailed in ISIS Magazine (see The Wicked Messenger #6649 for January 4, 2009), a completely new Bob Dylan album is in the can. Our understanding is that the album was recorded last October in California (maybe with the recording sessions starting slightly earlier than that). The sequencing of the tracks was completed in January and the album is expected to contain ten tracks.

Jeff Rosen has brought the finished album to Europe for listening sessions in various cities including London, Munich and Oslo. These “listenings” were mainly for sales and marketing staff at Sony. We must assume that similar sessions have taken place in the United States. Several different titles have been put forward for the album but, for the most part, these seem to be little more than internet babble and at the time of the listenings (mid February) no title had been decided upon. At one time, it was suggested that the album would be released in the autumn, then a release date in May 2009 was mentioned but it seems that the release has now been brought forward to the last week of April, to coincide with later stages of Dylan’s forthcoming European tour. There are strong rumours about the circumstances in which the album came about (See entry for “My Own Love Song” below). There are also rumours that the musicians on the album are not all from the current touring band.

Meanwhile, we will leave you to speculate on the coincidence of any additional London concert date (April 26) and the release of a new album.

Good news as far as I'm concerned, & I'm not one who thinks that everything the current band does is crap. I think some new musicians might spur Bob on to try something new as far as his sound goes.

Here's hoping for that late April release date for this album & no BS like selling it exclusively at Walmart or charging $50 for a deluxe edition that has a couple of extra tracks.

I proposed this a while ago, and it turns out MT was released towards the end of the summer 06 ballpark tour, as Standin pointed out

From another msg board I am a member of. Nothing new, except for the mention of Benmont.

Exciting.

QUOTE:

Donnie Herron, who plays steel, fiddle, and banjo in Dylans' touring band also played on that project. Mike Cambell get Bob involved, who got Donnie involved in a film scoring project for a yet to be titled movie. Donnie didn't mention recording an entire record, but he did say that they cut several songs with Mike at a large LA Studio. I know Benmont Tench was also working on that project too. Either way, can't wait to hear it. Donnie is one of the most amazing musicians I've ever met. A true whiz on the pedal steel guitar, he was a founding member of the Nashville band BR549.

Great news that Benmont Tench is involved, I loved his playing on the 87 tour.

I see 'em too Moonlight. I'm not sure I wanted to, but I see 'em.

NEP as a source for a Rolling Stone blog? New Yorker quoting vague fan rumors? What's this world coming to?

And by the way, I think that's the first time I've seen that Weird Al "Bob" video linked to the New Yorker blurb...pretty clever. Of course, I'm at the age where I can hide my own Easter eggs, so I'm not sure I hadn't seen it before.
