In response to some who think threads about ET's liking bobs music would make Bob laugh, as opposed to those who analyse Bob to the hilt ... who would presumably bore Dylan to tears - all of you miss the point.

As it is, i found a quote from someone who doesnt even profess to be a Dylan fan, and therefore should NOT know better than us, but actually does: He said after watching an amazing clip of Bob doing Visions of Johanna:

Now tell me if threads about ET's dancing to this music really does a Dylan fan, or this Dylan site justice? IMHO it does not.

so i take it if that bothers ya, the threads over at ER about what vegetable bob would be, or which one of his toes is your favorite would really, really make you freak out?

i once saw a thread over there about bob's mucus, and whether people would be willing to extract it orally (i'm trying to convert that to something less gross than the original version, trust me)

by the way, none of those were started by me... i'm just sayin' that as far as silly goes, this place is tame by comparison to some. and since we're online and the whole big ol' wide world has their own ideas of good ways to spend their time: it is what it is.

You confirmed what i already realised .... these sites arent about Bob at all. They are about the fans of Bob Dylan .... and what they think is important .... etc etc to do with Bob.

Its really nothing to do with his art, or his music, or whatever .... or Bob at all!!!

oh i dunno if i'd go as far as to say none of it is about bob, but we do bring ourselves (beautiful, crazy, silly, ugly, annoying, asshat and otherwise) with us wherever we go.

i can be dead serious about bob. about how incredible and magically delicious i think he is. but i can be silly too. i guess it depends on the mood i'm in. i'm not sure i'd automatically correlate a silly thread with disrespect to the artist, but some of them (mostly in that other place) do make me cringe a little.

silly i can get behind. silly at least has some playfulness behind it. it's the threads/posts/people who trash dylan, the NET, or whatever, over and over that i think are more of a joy-killer... but mostly 'cause i don't understand why someone who doesn't like bob would bother hangin' out here, or there, or on a bob related site at all.

whatever made delicious bob also made mosquitoes, snakes in the grass, flatulence, death, britney spears, van gogh, dickinson, kittens, love and hate, etc... some of it sucks, some of it don't.

I'm an absolute scream .... : ) I can joke about Bob or whatever like the next person .... but sometimes ..... you know?

i hear ya... truly i do.

i work with the public 5 days a week. about 60% of them are lovely, reasonable people. about 10% of them are seriously mentally ill... the other 30% are complete and utter jerks i'd like to smack in the face.

it's a crapshoot. i get to work on my tolerance of humanity a lot at work.

And for that, one doesnt really need a fan site : ) Which is probably why Bob never had one.

I was watching videos, of those gearing up and/or evaculating for Hurricane Gustav, on the weather channel when a Mayor in that region said:

I think a fan site is just as interesting as a dylan website. Bob is lauded and acclaimed around the world. What goes on here I can't see that it matters. He says he owes his fans nothing, and no one owes him Justice.
