That is not the point, I was merely using it as an example, your claim that just because you enjoy doing something means you are good at it is utterly false

sorry not trying to cloud any issue...
just expressing my feeling on the sugject...
i mean, how many shows have you been to where an artist does the same set every night, and looks & sounds like they are going through the motions...technically great but missing something?
and you go see another artist who 'feels' every note played, every word sung and they look like they are having a great time?
that love of their craft comes out so strongly...and you can feel it...
how can you NOT enjoy that show more that the first artist?
thats the difference between a great show and an ok one...for me at least... (aka good vs bad?)
i guess your point was that every review written on Pagels site seems overblown...
and it may seem that way at first glance, but remember they are written by fans and most likely one would write a review only if they felt strongly enough to do so...
one would hope that if you are going to a show for a good time, that you do actually have a good time...
sorry if my post was misconstrued...

It wasn't misconstrued, no need to apologise. I have been a Dylan fan since 1986 and would seethe with rage back in the late 80s to mid 90s whenever I saw a negative review in the press, mainly because it would be inaccurate, since Dylan's heart scare there has been a tendency by the press and the fans to kiss Dylan's ass every time he plays a show or every time he releases a new album, whatever he does, he could release his own brand of peanut butter and they would say its some sort of ingenious statement. My point is that Dylan used to be the "second artist" but now he more closely resembles the "first artist" but you wouldn't know it by reading the work of journalists or listening to the majority of the fans, every night for the past 2 years at least he has been going through the motions, I don't care about the band as much as I care about Dylan's attitude, whenever I have expressed this opposing view I have been likened to the folkies of the Electric 66 phase, its become a get-out clause for the fanboys and the fangirls whenever they come across a view that is not based on absurd adulation
For the most part he press have never been right and they are still wrong today, they were wrong to say Dylan was a spent force in the early 90s and they are wrong to say he is an artist currently at the top of his game. The bill pagel reviews may as well have been written by Bob's close relatives and friends and they have been that way since 2003 which was the last time I read a less than absurdly positive review at Boblinks

Point taken
I can see where you're coming from
Sure, Bob's songwriting has morphed over the years into a different style, from a flowery poetic to a more gritty 'real' poetry
don't know if I'm explaining that the way I would like
But I've seen hundreds of live shows (and not all Bob) over the years and there was just something that grabbed me back in 2001, that didn't happen back in the late 80's when I first saw him
And I'm coming from that perspective
of course the band backing him then was on fire, and it was a formidable force
i've brought a few non-dylan fans to some of the shows, and managed to convert a couple, those who were not converts and did not appreciate his music, at least were able to see that his performance was emotionally charged...
I do see Bob still caring
and I do believe he is enjoying himself
of course I could be wrong about him, but heck, I'm enjoying the shows
hey i gotta run, i need to get off this computer and actually get to work... but its been cool talking...
catch ya later

He posted a performance art piece whereby a scantilly-clad, tall, babe strutted about a stage, waving a small, red silk handkerchief. She'd hide it, show her empty hands, and then there it would appear. That sort of thing. Thing was, before her act was over, she was starkers, but for high heels, and had tossed in a bit of the bump and grind with the music. It was very well done, and played to an live, adult audience.
Thing was, DSS/s&dman posted this as an mp3, claiming it to be a Dylan song. Of course, it was anything but, but in no way could it be described as pornographic. Racy, yes, but that's where it ended.
Now, my sense is that had DSS added something like "Parental Advisory" to his post, nothing would have happened, other than more people clicking on the link.
But ...I'm not sure what exchanges may have occured between DSS and the moderators.
As I've said, before, I think it was most unfortunate that it happened. At the same time, admin does have some responsibility to assure that user's children are not subjected to entertainment that is adult-oriented.
Any ultimate reinstatement decision resides with admin, but I have a hunch DSS would not give a damn if he were reinstated. It would probably take people like yourself to encourage him to come back and participate in this forum. He does, after all, have The Watchtower.
Without getting into more detail that necessary, I think some clarification is needed here. This post might lead people to believe that DSS was "banned" for posting the thread described above. This is not the case.
The thread was inappropriate, not only for its content, but because it was posted in the "Bob Dylan Forum" rather than "off topic," and purported to be a recording (I think it may have been described as video?) of a Dylan performance. When moderators became aware of it, we decided to delete the thread--just that--delete the thread. DSS was notified that the thread had been deleted and why. He was not banned, only asked to be more prudent in his future postings. His response to admin., which included his demand to be removed from the NEP, is the reason he's no longer with us.
Sorry, Laughs. I missed your post, otherwise I would have responded sooner.
Thanks for jogging my memory, somewhat. I'm not trying to create a scene, here. I was just attempting to answer this question posed by Michael Harding:
Can't sword swallower be reinstated? What did he do wrong?
Now, I swore that I once saw the word "banned," as regards DSS. So, I did a little research. You are correct in that he was not banned for posting the link. We've got that much straight.
But he was, in the end, banned from The NEP. According to admin, "his response to admin" resulted in this comment:

I trust that the exchanges, above, have been of some help to Michael H. It didn't occur to me to do a search, initially. In hindsight, I wish I'd done so.

2001 was a great year for sure, one of the best years of the NET along with 2000, I actually like some of the shows from the last 2 years, Stockton 2006 is great, not a bad performance on it, Birmingham 2007 is a good show and Stockholm 07 has a great Hard Rain, Santiago 08 was a pretty good show with a nice Masters of War and a Workingman Blues that I didn't find irritating for once, Another show Cardoba I think has a great Honest With Me

Forget about a last minute booking of a warmup show. The limping roadie and his boys
came out of the gate in full throttle.
They mixed a kick-ass taped intro with some of Bob's best melodic softer side songs in years.
The band was decked out in Rolling Thunder white face save Donnie. I guess if I had skin
like that I'd go paintless as well.

for anyone not registered with DIME, here's a 75-second mp3 clip of last night's 'girl from the north country', that was originally posted by the taper on the DIME page.
is it just me, or is this the best recording quality heard in a while?

Just to, again, re-clarify---DSS specifically requested/insisted that he be removed from the NEP.
