24 April 1992

Waikiki Shell, Waikiki, Hawaii

This show is immortalized in the great soundboard recording, “Paradise Hawaiian Style,” the source of the mp3’s below.

1. Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35
2. Most of the Time
3. Union Sundown
4. Just Like A Woman
5. Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again
6. I'll Be Your Baby Tonight
7. She Belongs To Me
8. Love Minus Zero / No Limit
9. Little Moses
10. Golden Vanity
11. Mr. Tambourine Man
12. Cat's In The Well
13. Idiot Wind
14. The Times They Are A-Changin'
15. Highway 61 Revisited
16. Absolutely Sweet Marie
17. All Along the Watchtower
18. Blowin' in the Wind

From Bobsboots:

“A near perfect quality soundboard recording graces the two CDs of this great set. The mix is perfect. The vocals are out front, but not overpowering. The instruments are blended precisely. Everything is crystal clear. The band's performance is tight, but Dylan fumbles and flounders, forgets, and improvises his way throughout. Regardless, there are some nice renditions... and a few jewels.”

From Monicasdude (rmd): “Beautiful sound quality; one of the best soundboards around. In terms of performance, though, ... But despite singing through his sinus cavities and enunciating like a drunken student practicing a new language, he pulls a few tricks out of the bag, particularly an outstanding 'Golden Vanity.’”

Bobtalk: "This one's got all that stuff in it, you'll see, it's got all that and more."
(intro to “Golden Vanity”).

This show included three relative rarities, “Golden Vanity,” “Most of the Time,” and “Union Sundown,” that are included in the following mp3’s. All were retired by the end of 1992.

According to hisbobness.com database:
“Golden Vanity” has only been performed 7 times—this is the last of those.

“Most of the Time was performed 36 times, all between 1989 and 1992. This is the 35th of those. (Last time performed live was May 9., 1992)

“Union Sundown” was performed 30 times between 1986 and 1992. The song was “retired” on Sept. 3.

“Idiot Wind," was also retired later in 1992.

I always enjoyed the hell out this "Union Sundown". Perhaps the quality of the recording enhanced the songs gusto.

The "Golden Vanity" was an decent effort, but the earlier, Australian ( I think) performances were dynamite.

Thanks Flowers.

This show stikes me as one of those shows that got touted, early on, and people jumped on the bandwagon. It commands a quasi-exalted rating that it doesn't deserve, and I agree with LostJohn in that there is at least one better version of "Vanity," from Australia. Bob's intro to the song in Hawaii is infectious, though.
