I was really surprised when I saw that there were only 6 prizes donated for the entire pool. Personally, I'm not really here to compete for prizes and rarely do I even check my score. I'm here more to find out information and keep in touch with friends. But when the original Dylan Pool first began, there was a lot of competition and sportsmanship involved. There were only a couple hundred people registered for the first pool yet there were probably close to 100 prizes. Subsequentally, the prize committee couldn't keep up with all the donations, so many in fact that it was eventually abandoned. At any rate, this is a game with prizes, and it's a little disappointing to see so few donations. I pledge to donate a prize next pool and challenge anyone else who reads this thread to do the same. Let's make this a better place.
Two pools ago I donated a prize, but the winner never claimed it, even after several attempts by me to contact him. That is the reason that I stopped donating. On the old pool, the prize committe (of which I was chairperson) was ready and willing to facilitate the prize distributions, but we were not allowed to act on anything until we had the go-ahead from the admin. That is where the breakdown was. I'd be happy to re-visit my role as prize coordinator, but unfortunately my computer has died.
I'll dontate a prize to Spirit, retroactively, just because.
Personally, I think that if the winner of your prize does not claim it in 1 month (or whatever period of time is reasonable) then the prize should go to someone else: perhaps to the overall pool winner, one of the members of the winning team, or just offer it up as a freebie on the Bootleg board. That's what I will do for the next tour.
Another reason for the decrease in prizes may simply be because bootlegs are not traded as much anymore. With everyone downloading boots, there is no need to win a hard copy like in the old days. And if memory serves, most of the prizes at the old pool were of that nature.
I guess that means people need to get more creative with prizes, or donate something that has more "worth" than regular old boots.
might be fun to optionally allow all users to donate say $1 every tour and then, of only those that donated, split the pot between top 3 donating members? or is that illegal or something? hehe...
just thinking out loud in response to Hotter Than A Crotch's valid point...
this community asked for a dollar donation for the south of the south tour. I donated thinking I was a good community member. Nothing was ever said. I would not donate again until this has Kenneth Star approval. Was I the only one to get con-deed? I sometimes make bad decisions.
like bee said,
we organized a paypal prize donation. The result of this was that about 10 members actually contributed something.
i was a bit dissapointed with the low turnaround this brought.
But nevertheless, we managed to gather enough to buy a prize for winner of the winning team.
But,
next tour we'll try again, maybe we'll have better luck then.
I donated prizes in the past but have taken a few tours off to allow others to have an opportunity to donate prizes. I will step up again for the next tour, but perhaps those who have never donated could join us in giving back a little. As for the donation of cash for prizes, I am not in favor, but would gladly pony up if there is a need to pay for the server space or bandwidth being used here.
