Imagine what he saw. I know that the talk about Dylan in double-knits was widespread, but each generation produces its idiots. By the way, you shoulda heard what went down in 1965, oh, '66, oh, '69, oh.

Now what is this thread about, exclusively Dylan in 1978? or the year of 1978 including all that transpired with Bobby?

When I saw Bobby that year? September. Right in the middle of an exploding, uh, relationship.

What else was going on? Seattle Slew. Hare Krsna woman gave me some flower that I pinned on my lapel.

Were the shows markedly different? Damn sure. Different than what? You know what was great? - the vocals with the backup singers. You know what was great? - Bobby's introduction of them.

Listen to the words - "where the Good Shepherd grieves"

I still prefer the Tangled Up in Blue in its hymn form of these performances. The Biblical reference as sung in Charlotte, North Carolina ...

Joe Colombo finally died in 1978. Dylan content? Colombo was gunned down in 1971...possibly by order of one Joey Gallo.

One has to wonder what Bob was trying to do when he sang so positively about Joey Gallo (and Rubin Carter, for that matter). Neither one was much of a hero.

February/March '78

Japan dates:

February
20 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall
21 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall
23 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall
24 Osaka Fu, Japan Matsushita Denki Taiikukan, Hirakata City
25 Osaka Fu, Japan Matsushita Denki Taiikukan, Hirakata City
26 Osaka Fu, Japan Matsushita Denki Taiikukan, Hirakata City
28 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall

March
1 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall
2 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall
3 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall
4 Tokyo, Japan Nippon Budokan Hall

The Nippon Budokan, often shortened to just "Budokan," is an arena in central Tokyo.

For many Westerners, the Budokan is synonymous with large-scale rock concerts. It was here that The Beatles made their Japanese debut and the location where many "Live at the Budokan" albums were recorded. The Nippon Budokan, however, was originally built for the judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics, hence its name, rendered into English as Martial Arts Hall.

Liner Notes

The more I think about it, the more I realize what I left behind in Japan -- my soul, my music and that sweet girl in the geisha house -- I wonder does she remember me? If the people of Japan wish to know about me, they can hear this record -- also they can hear my heart still beating in Kyoto at the Zen Rock Garden -- Someday I will be back to reclaim it.
