Hey C.U. !! Hope you are doing okay... I looked up "Interstate 60" on the World Wide Web and it does indeed look pretty wacky. Plus it has good old Gary Oldman....

Hey uty! Thanks, I'm fine. Hope you are, too!?
I followed your example and got a member of the city's library that has a much more variety on DVDs than the one I knew from another (smaller) town. I got a bunch of Jim Jarmusch movies:

Coffee and Cigarettes
Night on Earth
Mystery Train
Stranger Than Paradise

Probably not movies for everyone, but I like them. Melancholy, bizarre, witty stories. I may quote kasper from some pages back.

I really like Jim Jarmusch, movies like 'Down by Law' (with Tom Waits in a lead role) and 'Dead Man' (With Johnny Depp and a soundtrack by Neil Young). He always creates a world that is very different from anything else you'll see and somehow much more real. Love his sense of humour too.

And I was surprised to discover a well known name in the credits of "Mystery Train": Tony Garnier as bass player in the music department .

Here is a sequence of "Coffee and Cigarettes" which is also known as short film "Somewhere in California" starring Tom Waits and Iggy Pop

When I started this thread I was trying to push people into checking out Giulietta Masina in the movie "Nights Of Cabiria". Well, only a year later I've learned enough to be able to at least put a clip from the movie on this thread. (It happens to be the final scene that I mentioned at the time).

Also, I'm throwing in a clip from her performance in the more famous movie "La Strada"("The Road". The clip is in Italian but you can still get an idea of how adorable she is in that film as well.

I hope these clips might inspire somebody to check out one or both of these movies. Giulietta Masina is really someone special. Okay, I admit it, I'm in love with her!!! Unfortunately, she is no longer alive.

If anyone checks these movies out, let me know what you thought of them. They were directed by Federico Fellini (her husband) and he was great as well.

Complete Unknown, did you ever get to see Rescue Dawn? I know the post was a while ago, but I wanted to know what you thought of the film.

I just saw Zombie Land. I thought the film was funnier than Shaun of the Dead. Woody Harrelson was perfect for the role! If you haven't seen the film I won't give away the funniest scene

let's not forget "Juliet of the Spirits" Fellini's ultimate tribute to his wife.

No, not yet. But thanks for reminding. I'll look out for it in the library.

Well, I seed (yeah,"seed" two animated movies in the last few days and I'm telling you to "look them up/If you've got the time".

One is called "Up"- I'm sure you've heard of it... It may be a little corny to some... but I thought it was quiet sweet personally...nice observations on love, death, and what constitutes an "adventure" in life. The talking dog may have been my favorite. One of his funny/sweet lines was "I hid under your porch because I love you".

The other movie is Wes Anderson's stop-motion animation movie called: "Fantastic Mr. Fox". While not as great as "The Darjeeling Limited" or "Rushmore", it is still quirky/cool in the Wes Anderson way. The best voices (to me) were Willen Dafoe as a mean sleazy rat (perfect typecasting despite the fact that Dafoe has also portrayed Jesus) and George Clooney as Mr. Fox. Clooneys voice really is cool---proving to me that he isn't just getting by on his looks .

P.S.- If you see "Mr. Fox", check out the scenes with the smoke from the fire and the smoke from the ends of the guns---- Although I think it is just stretched out cottonball cotton, it looks really cool (Put the film on pause at various points for better study of it). Also, I wasn't high on marijuana at the time...Just check it out, man!!!

Bye bye!

I'm watching mainly Japanese movies this week. Kurosawa for the most part, but also a nice little film "Departures" A friend recommended it and even thoughit won an Oscar I hadn't heard of it. Very good film.

Im going to a screening early tomorrow morning of Kurosawa's "Ran." Haven't seen it since its first release. I believe the re-release is in celebration of tis 25th anniversary. Yeah. "Departures" took the best foreign film Oscar in 2008.

Did you guys ever see Kurusawa's version of Maxim Gorki's "The Lower Depths"? It's definitely worth checking out. Jean Renoir also did a version of it. Also worth checking out.
