Leonard Cohen at the O2 4 Months ago
Anyone else there? I really, really enjoyed it, but had to leave before it ended. It was a complete nostalgia trip as I went with the friend I'd seen him with in 1970, and 'That's No Way to Say Goodbye' brought back all the memories of the break up with my first serious boyfriend at about the same time.

I had to leave before the end - what happened after 'Closing Time', did it go on much longer?

Saw him twice in Dublin and it was stunning. In fact, it was a crazy 3 week period for me where I managed to see Springsteen, Bob and Leonard twice each. Don't think there'll ever be another month like it for me.Just magical...

My goodness!
One to tell the grandkids about.
But you better keep the ticket stubs or they'll never believe you!

I even saw Nick Cave a couple of weeks before that sequence but he seems like a distant memory compared to the aforesaid heavyweights....

Leaving Bruce aside and condensing it to a tighter time frame, I had a gig week from heaven with Bob on the Tuesday (Vienna at the rail for last 6 songs) and Wednesday (Salzburg at the rail from the off), home Thursday night, rest day Friday and then two stunners on the Saturday and Sunday courtesy of Leonard. Even got to have a quick chat with Daniel Lanois at the gig and to shake the hand of Charlie Webb (of the "sublime" Webb sisters fame). Needless to say, after a week like that, readjusting to normal mundane life was a little difficult for a while..

Stunning was what it was last night too - think I'm going to have to book for the show he's doing at the O2 in November (the tour has been extended and their are new dates in the UK and Ireland October/November).
He was so sexy, I'd forgotten how hypnotic his speaking voice is and how funny he is too.

Wait, don't gloss over Nick Cave. He's on the top of my list of performers I really want to see in concert. How was it? I take it he played most of his stuff from Dig Lazarus Dig? Inquiring minds want to know, especially since I don't believe he plays the midwest US too often.

Nick was good without being brilliant. My third time seeing him and not even close to the magical performance of the Olympia theatre in Dublin 2001(or was it 2002?) when he was touring No More Shall We Part. But this was outdoor at a larger venue so maybe it's not fair to compare. The set was mostly from the new album which I like but feel it was a tad overrated by the media. Of the old classics, Into My Arms and (a too brief) The Ship Song were the highlights. Shane McGowen made a cameo for Lucy and he completely massacred it.

Just after I asked you that question, I went to his website & saw that he's playing in Chicago in September, which is about 3 hours from me. After driving about 6 to see Dylan in August, I'm not sure I can justify it, though. Maybe. I envy your month stint of shows. I don't think those artists would ever play within driving distance of me in the same month.

Well, Nick, Bruce and Leonard all played down the road from me but for Bob, I had to get on a plane and go to Austria. Hoping he might come to Ireland in the Autumn though...

A really good Nick show is well worth a 3 hour drive. An average one probably is too so if I were you, I'd take that ride..

That's nice to read that Leonard Cohen is doing good shows right now, because I'm going to see him on Friday.
