not sure what your 'uh oh' indicates dread of...but this development could be viewed as yet another example of the corporate aspect of the artist (their corporate employers, that is) co-opting more and more 'cyber' space with things that have been proven to be marketable, or useful in marketing. (in this case, online 'community' in the form of a message forum)
I have watched with great interest, along with many of you, as this dylan ommunity has taken its many forms over the past decade, and survived. Survived change in the internet, most notably! Think of all those times when we were a free-floating, pre-existing 'market' or if you prefer 'community' waiting for an effective forum to join.
The forums come and go (no slight meant to this forum or previous ones), but the 'community' is what is made of it.
To take this rant down a darker alley,
What if these corporations are just setting up the vehicle for suckers like me to join and be monitored,& targetted for marketing...am I being harmed? or just herded?
What if this forum is used by these corporations to moniter for breaches of 'intellectual property' such as the 'peer-to-peer networks' referred to in the following article about another (separate) dark development in the evolution of the internet, and the growing corporate interest in it:

"One possible scenario: lyrics and tablature sites go underground (underweb?) and become the domain of peer-to-peer networks"
Soon..there may be no 'underground'.
Just a dark thought.
(i've had these thoughts since the mid-nineties, however, so who knows)
